Smith Gambrell Russell Represents Atalaya Capital in Joint Venture with German Operating Aircraft Leasing

ATLANTA (September 22, 2022) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that that it served as legal advisor to Atalaya Capital Management LP (Atalaya), a private credit and special opportunities investment manager based in New York, in its joint venture aimed at acquiring core and opportunistic aircraft transactions with German Operating Aircraft Leasing (GOAL), one of Germany’s leading independent investment and asset managers. As a first transaction for the joint venture, GOAL utilized its extensive aircraft leasing track record combined with Atalaya’s flexible capital solutions and its aviation industry expertise to structure a sale and lease back which included PDP financing for two Airbus A320neo and one A321neo with the Chilean carrier JetSMART.

The SGR legal team was led by Partner Alon Harnoy in the New York Corporate Practice, along with Partner Marc Latman and Legal Consultant Mark Leventhal in the New York Corporate and Global Transport practices, and Associate Jenny Wang in the Los Angeles Corporate Practice. The team also included New York Partner Eliot Zuckerman, Atlanta Partner Joe Mandarino for tax aspects, and Atlanta Counsel Walter Hinton with respect to sanctions and foreign asset control matters.
