Smith, Gambrell & Russell Welcomes Top Atlanta Attorneys Tony Cochran and Tom Bever; Grows White Collar Defense Practice

ATLANTA (December 17, 2019) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce the addition of Anthony L. (“Tony”) Cochran and Thomas D. (“Tom”) Bever to the firm’s Atlanta office and its partnership. Messrs. Cochran and Bever join SGR from their former Atlanta firm, Chilivis, Cochran, Larkins & Bever LLP. The addition of these two skilled litigators re-establishes SGR’s White Collar Defense Practice. Counsel Sarah T. Gordon and Associate Emily C. Ward also join SGR effective January 6, 2020.

During his career, Tony Cochran has represented many individuals and businesses on a variety of complex matters. He has tried dozens of jury trials in many areas of the law, bench trials, administrative and regulatory hearings, and medical peer review hearings at hospitals. His unique experience allows him to handle parallel civil, administrative and criminal proceedings, which are common in today’s legal environment. Mr. Cochran served as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Georgia, receiving recommendations from the Attorney General and Director of the FBI. Among his many accolades, he has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers. Super Lawyers consistently has listed him as one of the “Top 100 Attorneys” in Georgia, and for the last two years, he’s been listed among the “Top 10 Attorneys” in Georgia. Mr. Cochran is also listed in the publication’s Super Lawyers, Corporate Counsel Edition. Additionally, he is listed annually in The Best Lawyers in America© and in Atlanta Magazine’s compilation of the Best Lawyers in Atlanta.

Tom Bever focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense and commercial litigation, representing individual and corporate clients in all stages of criminal investigations. He also represents clients in civil litigation and trials, as well as administrative hearings and regulatory matters. Mr. Bever has served as lead counsel on behalf of companies on a variety of internal investigations in healthcare, government contracting, securities, tax, environmental, and commercial disputes. Notably, he was Associate Independent Counsel in the Iran/Contra Investigation and served as Assistant U.S. Attorney, Criminal Division, in the Northern District of Georgia. Mr. Bever is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© and was named the Best Lawyers® Criminal Defense: White-Collar 2018 “Lawyer of the Year” in Georgia. He is also listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and has had a top AV Preeminent rating by Martindale Hubbell for more than 20 years.
