Smith, Gambrell & Russell Advises the Management Team of Safe-Guard in Acquisition by Stone Point Capital

ATLANTA (February 3, 2020) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that the firm served as legal counsel to the management team of Safe-Guard Products International, LLC (Safe-Guard), the leading provider of third-party private label protection products for the automotive, RV, marine and powersports industries, in an investment in the company by funds managed by Stone Point Capital LLC (Stone Point), an owner and investor in leading companies within the financial services and related industries. Affiliates of the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (Goldman Sachs), which first acquired Safe-Guard in 2012, will continue to own a significant interest in the company.

With more than 13 million consumers protected under contracts, Safe-Guard manages protection product programs for over 50 strategic partners across the U.S. and Canada, offering a full suite of protection products in the automotive, powersport, RV, and marine industries. The investment by Stone Point affords Safe-Guard’s continued development of people, product, technology, and its service infrastructure in delivering innovative solutions and value-added customer support to strategic partners and customers.

The SGR Atlanta legal team was led by Robert Paller in the Corporate Practice and Glenn Infinger in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice. SGR also advised the Safe-Guard management team in the Goldman Sachs acquisition from H.I.G. Capital in 2012.
