Smith, Gambrell & Russell Represents The We’re Group in 130,000-Square-Foot Lease with Newsday Media Group on Long Island

ATLANTA (March 26, 2019) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that the firm served as legal counsel to The We’re Group in its lease negotiations with Newsday Media Group for the Long Island newspaper’s new headquarters location on Long Island in New York. Leasing 130,000 square feet, Newsday has signed a 15-year lease for office space in The We’re Group’s 6 and 8 Corporate Center Drive buildings located in Melville, New York.

With 20 properties located on Long Island, The We’re Group has an extensive portfolio of medical and office buildings, including 6 and 8 Corporate Center Drive in the Melville area along Route 110. The We’re Group was the original developer of the area and is Long Island’s largest and oldest active private developer and owner of buildings. Both 6 and 8 Corporate Center Drive were among several buildings developed by The We’re Group to address the demand from companies seeking to brand their own 80,000 to 150,000 square-foot buildings. The We’re Group has built more than 3.5 million square feet, including 2.3 million of office space, along the Route 110 corridor which has become a major center of commercial property.

Newsday, Long Island’s largest print and digital content provider, was seeking a state-of-the-art location for its new headquarters which would allow the publication to remain within the region it serves. Connected by an inside walkway, The We’re Group’s Corporate Center Drive two-building complex provides an accessible headquarters campus tailored to Newsday’s needs. Newsday will leave its longtime offices in nearby Melville with plans to occupy its new space in September.
