Smith, Gambrell & Russell Announces Return of Attorney Susan Atkinson to the Health Care Practice

ATLANTA (November 28, 2018) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Susan C. Atkinson has rejoined the firm as Counsel in the Health Care and Corporate practices. Based out of the Atlanta office, her focus is on assisting clients in the health care industry. Ms. Atkinson was previously with SGR from 1991 until 1996.

“We are excited to welcome Susan back to SGR,” said Brett Lockwood, Head of SGR’s Atlanta Corporate Practice. “She brings with her a wealth of expertise in the health care regulatory and compliance areas and will have a significant impact on the growth of the firm’s Health Care Practice.”

As Counsel in the firm’s Health Care Practice, Ms. Atkinson is dedicated to advising health care industry clients on a wide range of corporate, regulatory, and compliance matters. Throughout her career, she has advised hospitals, health systems, long term care facilities, sleep centers, ambulatory surgery centers, pharmacies, DME suppliers, FQHC’s, health care management companies, and physician practices of every size.

Ms. Atkinson was most recently principal of her own law firm, Atkinson Law, LLC, where she focused primarily on health care law. Prior to that, she served as Corporate Counsel with Saint Joseph’s Health System (now Emory/St. Joseph’s).

Ms. Atkinson is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia School of Law. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Health Law), the Georgia Academy of Healthcare Attorneys, the American Bar Association (Health Law), and the American Health Lawyers Association. Ms. Atkinson has been actively involved since 2005 in leadership roles with the Atlanta Bar Association’s “A Courthouse Line” productions (a series of all-attorney musicals which are the major fundraiser for the Atlanta Bar Foundation’s charitable programs), and she is a Lifetime Fellow of the Atlanta Bar Foundation. Ms. Atkinson has also been active in the Atlanta arts community, both in governance roles and as a performer.
