Smith, Gambrell & Russell and IP Attorneys Gregory Kirsch and Thomas Wiseman Recognized by USPTO with 2020 Patent Pro Bono Achievement Certificates

ATLANTA (June 2, 2021) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that the firm has been recognized by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) with a 2020 Patent Pro Bono Law Firm and Corporate Achievement Certificate. Additionally, two of SGR’s Intellectual Property Practice attorneys, Gregory Kirsch and Thomas Wiseman have been individually recognized with 2020 Patent Pro Bono Achievement Certificates. The Achievement Certificates are presented in recognition of individuals and law firms who reported 50 or more hours of patent pro bono service to a regional patent pro bono program.

The goal of the Patent Pro Bono Program is to match volunteer patent professionals with financially under-resourced inventors and small businesses for the purpose of securing patent protection. SGR was one of more than 25 corporations and law firms recognized in 2020. Mr. Kirsch and Mr. Wiseman were among the more than 100 volunteer patent practitioners recognized for individual pro bono achievement.

Greg Kirsch, partner and head of SGR’s Intellectual Property Practice, serves as patent counsel to clients ranging from large multinational corporations to small start-ups, as well as universities. His practice encompasses the entire range of patent law, including patent procurement, strategic patent portfolio development, patent opinions (infringement, validity and patentability), post grant proceedings, licensing, as well as patent litigation.

Tom Wiseman is counsel in SGR’s Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property Practice. His practice is primarily devoted to client counseling and patent prosecution, including interferences and reexaminations, in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical arts. Mr. Wiseman has been recognized multiple times with a Patent Pro Bono Achievement Certificate by the USPTO.

The continued efforts of patent practitioners across the country have strengthened the success of the Patent Pro Bono Program since 2015. To date, more than 1,800 patent professionals have volunteered their time and resources to help make the Patent Pro Bono Program a success.
