Smith, Gambrell & Russell Announces Revenue and Profit Increase for 2016; Firm Growth Kicks Off 2017

ATLANTA (April 17, 2017) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce the firm concluded 2016 with a 4.8 percent increase in revenue to $97.5 million and a 3.2 percent increase in net income to $32 million. Firm growth continued in early 2017 with the addition of new international markets in the U.K. and Germany and the expansion of the New York office.

In addition to increases in revenue and profit, SGR grew its average lawyer headcount from just under 200 in 2015 to more than 200 in 2017. The opening of the new offices in London, Southampton and Munich added three attorneys in aviation finance and one in German international law, respectively. The significant expansion of the firm’s New York office included the hire of three mergers & acquisitions attorneys and a new Italian Practice. The acquisition of boutique law firm, Balber Pickard Maldonado & Van Der Tuin brought seven new attorneys in real estate and litigation. The New York office now boasts 48 full-time lawyers.

The Atlanta office also made noteworthy additions. Former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court Leah Ward Sears joined the firm in the fall of 2016 bringing her appellate practice. SGR also welcomed Charles Vorndran, Ph.D. to its Intellectual Property Practice. Most recently, Kiyoaki Kojima joined the firm in the Corporate Practice and will introduce a Japanese Practice in 2017.
