SGR (formerly Freeborn & Peters LLP) Client Michael Zmijewski Obtains Complete Dismissal of Federal Indictment

Press Release

CHICAGO – Freeborn & Peters LLP is pleased to announce that its client, Michael Zmijewski, a former commercial flooring executive, has obtained a complete dismissal of a federal indictment filed against him in September 2021 in the Northern District of Illinois.  The lone charge stemmed from a U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust investigation involving the commercial flooring industry.

Mr. Zmijewski had pleaded not guilty and was preparing for trial when the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division filed a motion to dismiss the indictment with prejudice.  U.S. District Court Judge Manish S. Shah granted the motion on October 19, 2022, putting an end to the case.  Freeborn’s Dylan Smith and Alexander Vesselinovitch represented Mr. Zmijewski.

Dylan Smith, counsel for Mr. Zmijewski, said, “Michael has maintained his innocence of this charge from the start, and we were looking forward to showing at trial that the facts and the law were on his side.  The Antitrust Division should be commended for making the correct decision to dismiss the case.”
