Joseph Karam

Joseph Karam is a trial lawyer who has argued successfully in federal appellate courts and has worked with teams of litigators to get great outcomes for his clients in state and federal court. As a litigator, Joe has represented a wide variety of clients, both big and small, and has advocated for all of them at every stage of litigation.

Joe has experience working with in-house counsel and management of companies in pursuing litigation and developing strategy, particularly in fiduciary duty, fraud, and breach of contract litigation. He has extensive experience in managing cases. Clients rely on him for his legal research and factual analysis in key areas of disputes, as well as the drafting of court filings at all stages of litigation and arbitration. They also rely on him for strategic advice and trial preparation.  

His areas of focus include complex business litigation, with a particular emphasis on fiduciary duty litigation, corporate governance issues, business disputes, and complex contract disputes. Joe also has experience in a wide variety of other commercial matters, including civil fraud, restrictive covenant cases, and post-judgment collection actions.

Prior to joining the firm Joe worked as an associate for a litigation boutique that handled trial and appellate work at both the state and federal level, as well as domestic and international arbitrations. Before that he worked as a legal clerk for the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management within the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where he helped to prepare for hearings and propose changes to disaster legislation.

When not working, Joe enjoys playing soccer, practicing Brazilian jiu jitsu, and performing volunteer and advisory services for urban debate programs.

Representative Matters

• Successfully helped secure multiple settlements on behalf of companies in restrictive covenant litigations, thereby protecting those companies’ trade secrets and confidential information.
• Helped prepare for trial and secure a settlement as part of a litigation team for investors in a limited liability company that had alleged breach of fiduciary duty and fraud against the President of the company.
• Helped secure asylum status for pro bono clients and their family fleeing long-term violence in Central America. At a hearing on the merits, the Immigration Court found that the clients had suffered past persecution and would likely face future harm if returned, resulting in a final grant of asylum.
• Successfully worked with a team to obtain summary judgment for over $92 million in damages on behalf of a charity and against a fiduciary for violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, fraud, and aiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duty.
• Successfully briefed and argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit that his clients had standing to pursue a post-judgment collection action and that they had demonstrated their entitlement to collect a judgment from an alter ego on summary judgment.
• Helped acquire a settlement on behalf of the shareholders of artificial intelligence startup in a shareholder derivative action for breach of fiduciary duty before the Delaware Court of Chancery.
