About Jon

Jon Thoren has over forty years of experience as a transactional tax attorney and a Big 4 tax consultant. His primary expertise includes federal income tax aspects of corporate transactions, taxable and tax-free structures, private equity structuring, bankruptcy or insolvency tax issues, IRS audits and appeals, financial instruments, and leasing transactions. Jon has drafted and reviewed complicated tax opinions, memoranda, and SEC disclosures for multi-entity corporate and partnership transactions. He also has taught in-house seminars on mergers, financial instruments, and net operating loss utilization strategies.

Prior to joining SGR, Jon worked at PwC’s Washington National Tax office as a Managing Director focusing on complex corporate transactions and debt restructurings. He had been with PwC for almost 20 years and also has served as a senior tax counsel to a Fortune 50 corporations.
