About Neal

Neal T. Dorman is passionate about the roots of Rock & Roll, convertible roadsters, and hand-crafted microbrews; fortunately, not all three at the same time, nor when he is practicing law.

Neal knows that clients’ lives, and their legal needs, are multifaceted and rarely easily compartmentalized into discrete departments or practice groups. As a prior member of the Firm’s Executive Committee and head of the New York Corporate Section, Neal works to ensure that the Firm’s practice groups collaborate regularly to provide clients with the most effective representation possible. His areas of focus include Corporate Law as well as Tax and Trusts & Estates. He has been included in Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America directories for many years after being selected by peers and independent research.

As general counsel to and director of numerous privately held corporations and counsel to entrepreneurs, their businesses and families, Neal practices general corporate and commercial law, including business organization, commercial transactions, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, bank and private placement financings and secured transactions.

In the area of trusts and estates, Neal represents individuals regarding estate planning and drafting, including the preparation of wills and trusts. His experience also encompasses all stages of administration of estates and trusts, from probate proceedings, administration of decedents’ estates, tax proceedings, tax audits and appeals through accountings. Based on the close relationship he enjoys with many clients, Neal also serves as executor and trustee for a number of estates and trusts. In the town of New Castle, Chappaqua, New York, he served on the Town Board and as counsel to the Hidden Hollow Association and as volunteer counsel to and a member of the Citizens’ Emergency Response Team. Neal volunteers at the Hole In The Wall Gang Camp which was started by Paul Newman as a camp which brings joy to children with serious illnesses.

Neal is married to Helen Dorman, a Cornell graduate, previously an ocularist and currently an accomplished Real Estate broker in Chappaqua, NY. They have two daughters: Karen Kipnes, a graduate of Cornell University with a J.D. from Benjamin Cardoza School of Law, and Deborah Grishman, a graduate of Cornell University with an MBA from Columbia University School of Business. They are also proud grandparents to five. He and his family live in New Castle, New York where he loves to go for long drives with the top down while listening to Elvis and Motown. The microbrews await him at home.
