Dr. Sharon K. Ngwenya is a Patent Science Advisor in the Intellectual Property Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
Dr. Sharon Ngwenya is a Patent Science Advisor based in SGR’s Atlanta office. She has extensive experience in identifying, evaluating, and developing IP protection strategies, and marketing and licensing intellectual property assets. With a background in scientific research, Dr. Ngwenya also has experience drafting and pursuing patent applications in the US and worldwide, and drafting and negotiating commercial agreements of various kinds.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Ngwenya worked for the University of Texas at Arlington, where she served as a Manager and Assistant Director, as well as the Houston Methodist Research Institute and the University of Tennessee Research Foundation. She also previously worked at another law firm as a technology specialist handling patent matters.
Dr. Ngwenya has nine years of experience in research and twelve years of experience in intellectual property asset management. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Oakwood College, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University.
