Gene represents clients in complex patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright and trade secrets disputes, with experience spanning federal courts and administrative proceedings, including inter partes reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Gene has experience in technologies related to medical devices, software, network security, and consumer products.

Gene has been involved in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through trial, developing infringement, noninfringement, invalidity and validity positions, managing discovery, and working closely with technical experts and opposing counsel. He brings a strong technical background, including a degree in biomedical engineering, which enhances his ability to understand and analyze complex patents and technical subject matter.

Prior to joining SGR, Gene practiced at an intellectual property boutique firm where he led technical investigations, drafted pleadings and dispositive motions, and supported clients through high-stakes litigation and administrative review. During law school, he served as an editor of the Intellectual Property Journal, worked at the Patent Hub assisting with prior art searches and invention intakes, and completed a judicial externship with the Honorable Patricia O’Brien Sheahan of the Circuit Court of Cook County.

Gene earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, while there he continuously made the Dean’s list and served as an Associate Editor for The Chicago-Kent Intellectual Property Journal and Treasurer for the Intellectual Property Law Society. Prior to law school, Gene received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Cell & Tissue Engineering. Before completing his degrees, Gene served as Staff Sergeant for the Israel Defense Forces Armored corps.

Gene also dedicates time to pro bono work, assisting individuals seeking to expunge or seal their criminal records through the Greater Chicago Legal Clinic.
