In the three years since it’s creation, the Georgia Clean Energy Property Tax Credit, which creates an income tax credit for a variety of energy-efficient technologies, has led to clean energy property projects that generated more than $2.3 million in sales tax revenue, according to a report released by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority.
The Georgia Clean Energy Property Tax Credit was created under Georgia House Bill 670, which was signed into law on May 14, 2008. Since that time, a total of 780 applications have been approved (677 residential and 103 non-residential). The credit has also led to more than $890,000 in annual energy savings for residential and commercial users and nearly 7,000 tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions have been avoided.
