Smith, Gambrell & Russell Represents Utility Associates in Venture Funding

Ethridge and Rueter

Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce the firm served as legal counsel to Utility Associates, Inc. (Utility) in the venture funding round that secured capital from private investment vehicle Hicks Holdings, LLC (Hicks). The venture capital will support the expansion of Utility’s BodyWorn™ product and position the company for growth within the first responder industry. BodyWorn is the only smart solution that incorporates GPS, motion sensors, real-time communications, live video streaming and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to meet the ever-evolving needs of law enforcement.

The BodyWorn camera system is combined with Utility’s Ecosystem of solutions, which includes advanced in-car video and 4G-LTE communications to provide first responders with enhanced situational awareness and coordination ability. The Ecosystem delivers one fully-integrated solution, resulting in reliability far better than competing systems made up of several different vendors.

In addition to Hicks Holdings, Braemar Energy Ventures and Treeter Holdings participated as investors in Utility’s venture funding. Proceeds from the investment will be used to expand Utility’s marketing and sales team in the U.S. and internationally, while also providing working capital for a rapidly expanding order base.

The SGR Atlanta legal team included John C. Ethridge, Jr. and Nicholas Rueter in the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice.
