Smith, Gambrell & Russell Partner Kathy Zickert Appointed to Board of Directors of Georgia Regional Transportation Authority by Governor Deal

ATLANTA (November 6, 2018) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Kathryn Zickert, Partner and Chair of the firm’s Zoning, Planning and Land Use Practice, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) by Governor Nathan Deal. Ms. Zickert is one of 29 of Governor Deal’s most recent board appointments in Georgia.

Beginning with the next meeting on November 14, Ms. Zickert will serve with the 15-member team who make up the GRTA Board of Directors as chosen by Governor Deal from among the ranks of private and public sector leaders throughout metro Atlanta. A core function of the GRTA Board is to advise the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA), which is responsible for the management and operations of the Xpress Commuter Coach Service. The GRTA Board also serves as the Governor’s Development Council (GDC), a separate entity with a statewide purview whose work is supported by SRTA staff.

Kathy Zickert is a Partner in the Atlanta office of SGR and is the leader of the Zoning, Planning, and Land Use Practice. She practices in all aspects of land use and zoning, including environmental and land use litigation, condemnation, re-zonings, variances, special or conditional use permits, special exceptions, subdivision approvals and all other permitting, fair housing, developments of regional impact and historic preservation. Ms. Zickert was previously a magistrate for DeKalb County and represented DeKalb County on the Metropolitan Atlanta Transit Authority board of directors. She has been recognized four times as “Lawyer of the Year” for Land Use and Zoning and/or for Litigation-Land Use and Zoning by The Best Lawyers in America©.
