Smith, Gambrell & Russell Partner Jim Bikoff Appointed as Chair of the Trademarks & Unfair Competition Division of the ABA Section of IP Law

ATLANTA (June 19, 2019) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that firm Partner James Bikoff has been appointed as Chair of the Trademarks & Unfair Competition Division of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA-IPL) for the 2019-2020 association year, which begins on September 1, 2019.

A part of the ABA and the largest organization of intellectual property lawyers in the world, the ABA-IPL Section is a highly respected and influential voice of the IP bar. Section leaders provide thoughtful consideration on emerging issues that shape and influence the views and policies advocated, encourage the development of relevant and timely programming and publications dedicated to those issues, and are the first face of recruitment and retention of members of the Section.

As a Division leader, Mr. Bikoff will play a vital role in the work of the ABA-IPL Section. He will lead committees to identify, analyze and prepare well-thought out positions on important issues which may become resolutions, CLE program sessions, webinars, books or white papers. Mr. Bikoff has been serving as vice chair of the Trademarks & Unfair Competition Division and previously served as chair of the Trademark Litigation Committee.

Jim Bikoff is a Partner in SGR’s Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property Practice. His more than 30-year practice focuses on formulating and implementing worldwide trademark and copyright protection and enforcement programs in the consumer and industrial product sectors, as well as non-profits and service providers. He also engages in Internet and domain name counseling and enforcement actions.

Mr. Bikoff is also a member of the European Community Trademark Association (Anticounterfeiting Committee), the International Trademark Association, the Data Protection Committee, and the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (Trademark and Internet Committees), and has served as co-chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the DC Bar Association. Additionally, he is a member of several editorial and advisory boards, including the IP Litigator, International Quarterly, The University of Baltimore Intellectual Property Law Journal and the World Trademark Review.
