SGR’s Jim Bikoff and Bruce McDonald Recognized on World Trademark Review’s “WTR 1000” List of World’s Leading Trademark Professionals of 2020; SGR Recognized as a Firm in Washington, D.C. Metro

ATLANTA (February 20, 2020) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce Partners James Bikoff and Bruce McDonald have been recognized on World Trademark Review 1000 list (WTR 1000) of the world’s leading trademark professionals of 2020. Additionally, SGR has been recognized as a firm for enforcement and litigation in the Washington, D.C. Metro area.

The WTR 1000 research directory, which focuses exclusively on trademark practices and practitioners, has firmly established itself as the definitive ‘go-to’ resource for those seeking world-class legal trademark expertise. As with previous editions, to arrive at the 2020 rankings, World Trademark Review undertook an exhaustive qualitative research project to identify the firms and individuals that are deemed outstanding in this critical area of practice. When identifying the leading firms, factors such as depth of expertise, market presence and the level of work on which they are typically instructed were all taken into account, alongside positive peer and client feedback.

Jim Bikoff is a partner in SGR’s Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property Practice. He has been active for more than 40 years directing worldwide trademark and copyright protection, litigation and anti-counterfeiting enforcement. Mr. Bikoff also has been active in Internet and domain name litigation. He is chair of the Trademark and Unfair Competition Division of the Intellectual Property Section of the American Bar Association and a member of the European Community Trademark Association (Anticounterfeiting Committee), the International Trademark Association (Data Protection Committee Subcommittee on Legislation), the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (Trademark and Internet Committees), and the Intellectual Property Constituency of ICANN. He has served as co-chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the D.C. Bar Association. He is also a frequent contributor to several publications, including IP Litigator, International Quarterly, and World Trademark Review.

Bruce McDonald is a Partner in SGR’s Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property Practice. His practice focuses on trademark and copyright law, including trademark registration and clearance opinions, investigations and enforcement litigation, with particularized expertise in the identification of parties in interest and pursuit of claims arising from the advertising and sale of goods and services at fictitious and anonymous websites. He also represents innovative drug developers in the negotiation of licensing agreements and represents a pharmaceutical association with the protection of intellectual property in pharmaceutical products and medical devices. A Russian language scholar by training, Mr. McDonald’s fluency has led to representation of Russian institutions and state-owned enterprises. As a former member of several IP associations, he currently serves on the American Bar Association’s International Intellectual Property Rights Committee and the Committee on Privacy, E-Commerce & Data Security and is liaison of the Intellectual Property Section. In addition, Mr. McDonald is a member of the Cosmos Club.
