ATLANTA (June 17, 2021) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Partners Peter Crofton and Gregory Smith have been re-elected as State of Bar of Georgia (Georgia Bar) Construction Law Section officers. Mr. Crofton and Mr. Smith will continue their roles as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, with one-year terms that run July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. Additionally, the Construction Law Section was honored with 2020-21 Section Award of Achievement presented during the Annual Meeting of the State Bar on June 12. The annual Section Awards of Achievement honor outstanding sections of the Georgia Bar for their members’ dedication and service to their areas of law practice and for devoting significant hours of volunteer effort to the profession.

The Construction Law Section of the Georgia Bar is a place for Georgia lawyers to meet and exchange information relating to construction issues. Many Georgia lawyers deal with construction related issues as part of their practice, even if their practices do not focus on serving the construction industry. This Section allows all of these lawyers to network and exchange information and ideas concerning a wide range of construction issues. This includes in-house attorneys, attorneys in firms, and attorneys with government entities. This section assists attorneys across the state of Georgia who work on construction contracts, disputes or regulatory/compliance issues.

As a member of SGR’s Atlanta Construction Law Practice, Peter Crofton assists clients with all aspects of the design, construction, and renovation of new and existing facilities. He represents a variety of clients with construction projects in the United States, Central America, and the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Crofton’s practice encompasses pre-construction planning and transactional services, dispute avoidance and risk mitigation during construction and post-construction dispute resolution. He most recently served as Chair of the Georgia Bar’s Construction Law Section and is a Section founding member. Mr. Crofton is also an adjunct professor at the Emory University School of Law where he teaches the Energy Law course to second and third-year law students.

A member of SGR’s Atlanta Construction Law and Government Contracts practices, Greg Smith practices in all areas of construction law, contract law, and government procurement. His practice consists of dispute resolution and litigation, counseling in contracting issues, counseling in government procurement, and the drafting, structuring, and review of construction and other contracts. Mr. Smith advises businesses in a wide range of legal, compliance, and strategic issues. He most recently served as Vice Chair of the Georgia Bar’s Construction Law Section and is a Section founding member. Mr. Smith serves on the steering committee for the International Construction Division of the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law. He is also the Southeast Regional Director for the Society of Construction of Law North America.
