ATLANTA (May 21, 2021) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Partner Roger Juan Maldonado was honored during the New York City Bar’s 15th Lawyer Assistance Committee Volunteer Appreciation Celebration held virtually on May 20, 2021. As the 68th President of the City Bar, Mr. Maldonado was an enthusiastic supporter of the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP). LAP has been helping lawyers with alcohol/substance use issues, depression and mental health disorders, stress and other challenges as never before throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Partner in SGR’s New York Litigation Practice, Mr. Maldonado has a more than 35-year legal career as a trial lawyer and commercial litigator. He represents musicians, publishers, and record labels in litigation to enforce their copyrights and contractual rights. In addition, Mr. Maldonado assists corporate and commercial institutions in litigation involving claims arising from software development/license disputes, lease agreements, and contract disputes. Fluent in Spanish, he represents the interests of various Hispanic and American businesses, government entities and individuals, and to investigate allegations of corporate wrongdoing and discriminatory employment practices.
Mr. Maldonado was the New York City Bar Association’s (City Bar’s) first Hispanic president when he served as the 68th president of the organization from May 2018 to May 2020. A native of Puerto Rico, he was also the former chair of the City Bar’s Task Force on Puerto Rico supporting its core mission to monitor Puerto Rico’s current fiscal crisis.
