SGR Partner Jim Bikoff Appointed as Advisor to the Trademarks & Unfair Competition Division of the ABA Section of IP Law

ATLANTA (April 27, 2017) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Partner James Bikoff  has been appointed as Advisor to the Trademarks & Unfair Competition Division of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA-IPL) for the 2017-2018 association year, which begins on September 1, 2017.

A part of the ABA and the largest organization of intellectual property lawyers in the world, the ABA-IPL Section is a highly respected and influential voice of the IP bar. Section leaders provide thoughtful consideration on emerging issues that influence the views and policies advocated, encourage the development of relevant and timely programming and publications dedicated to those issues, and are the first face of recruitment and retention of members of the Section.

As a Division leader, Mr. Bikoff will play a vital role in the work of the ABA-IPL Section. He will lead committees to identify, analyze and prepare well-thought out positions on important issues which may become resolutions, CLE program sessions, webinars, books or white papers. Currently, Mr. Bikoff serves as chair of the Trademark Litigation Committee of the ABA-IPL until the 2016-2017 association year concludes at the end of August.

James Bikoff is a Partner in SGR’s Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property Practice. His more than 30-year practice focuses on formulating and implementing worldwide trademark and copyright protection and enforcement programs for clients in the consumer and industrial product sectors, as well as non-profits, and service providers such as banks and insurance companies. He also engages in Internet and domain name counseling and enforcement actions. Mr. Bikoff is a member of the European Community Trademark Association, the International Trademark Association/Chair of the Internet Committee’s Whois & Privacy Issues Subcommittee, and the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. Recently, he was selected to serve as a member of the Law360 Intellectual Property Editorial Advisory Board and is recognized on the World Trademark Review’s “WTR 1000” list of the World’s Leading Trademark Professionals of 2017. Additionally, Mr. Bikoff is an ABA Fellow and the co-author of the U.S. Chapter of the recently published treatise entitled Online Brand Protection.
