SGR Boosts Its Corporate Immigration Practice, Acquiring The Kapoor Law Group

ATLANTA (June 12, 2014) – International law firm Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is expanding its corporate immigration practice significantly with the acquisition of The Kapoor Law Group, a specialty boutique firm based in Atlanta.  The firm’s Owner and Managing Partner, Romy K. Kapoor, will serve as a Partner in the Corporate Section of SGR, effective June 2. He and his staff have extensive experience in all aspects of immigration law for top multinational companies, as well as complex immigration, nationality and removal defense issues.

In addition to Romy Kapoor, the attorneys joining SGR’s Corporate Section are Robert J. Lee, Kelli Liliana Loftman and Severine Luther as Associates; Kavitha S. Bathala, Mukunda Kenneth Anderson, Moacir Rodriguez and Tatiana Hernandez-Davilla as paralegals; and Yolanda I. Turner as legal secretary.

“The Kapoor Law Group handles high-profile corporate immigration work that adds a key dimension to our existing practice,” said Stephen Forte, SGR’s Managing Partner. “It is an impressive group of lawyers, each of whom has a deep commitment and personal stake in the immigration process by virtue of being immigrants or first generation immigrants themselves. We are pleased to have them come aboard as a further addition to our growing international practice.”

Romy Kapoor started his firm in 1998 as Kapoor & Associates and has practiced immigration law exclusively for 20 years.  He attended Georgia State University Law School and the Atlanta Law School, and earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1992.  He has been selected as a Georgia Super Lawyer each year since 2006 and is listed as a Leading Business Immigration Lawyer in Chambers USA, the International Who’s Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers, and The Best Lawyers in America. He is a featured speaker on immigration matters at conferences and seminars for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the Practicing Law Institute and the State Bars of Georgia and Florida. Additionally, he served for six years as an elected Director to the Board of Governors of AILA. He has also served as a member of AILA’s Department of Labor Liaison Committee and AILA’s Business Immigration Committee.

SGR’s Business Immigration/Naturalization Practice guides national and international clients through processes including business and immigrant visas, I-9 workplace compliance, labor certifications and consular representation. The firm has collectively represented more than 500 corporations over the past five years.
