Smith Gambrell Russell Attorneys John Pennington and Thomas Wiseman Named Pro Bono Honor Roll Members by Virginia Access to Justice Commission

ATLANTA (June 9, 2022) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Washington, D.C. Partner John Pennington and Counsel Thomas Wiseman have been named “Pro Bono Service Honor Roll” members by the Virginia Access to Justice Commission. The honors were officially announced during the Chief Justice’s Pro Bono Summit on June 9 and published in the June 2022 issue of Virginia Lawyer magazine, the official publication of the Virginia State Bar.

John Pennington is a partner in SGR’s Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Pennington is a litigator with a primary focus on intellectual property. During his law career, he has obtained numerous favorable verdicts and has been recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association on its “Top 40 Under 40” list and by Super Lawyers on its Rising Stars list.

Tom Wiseman is counsel in SGR’s Intellectual Property Practice. His practice is primarily devoted to client counseling and patent prosecution, including interferences and reexaminations, in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical arts. Mr. Wiseman was recently recognized by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) with a 2021 Patent Pro Bono Law Firm Achievement Certificate for his patent pro bono service with Georgia PATENTS. In 2017, Mr. Wiseman was recognized as an “Attorney of the Year” by the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, which operates the Georgia PATENTS pro bono program.

In 2013, the Supreme Court of Virginia established the Virginia Access to Justice Commission. The Commission was established to ensure that an entity is actively coordinating and promoting access to justice efforts in the Commonwealth.
