SGR Expands New York Office with the Addition of Trusts & Estate Team Led by Roy P. Kozupsky

New York, NY — Smith Gambrell & Russell (SGR) today announced the addition of a team of trusts and estate attorneys, led by Roy P. Kozupsky, a leading practitioner in the field. SGR is a full service, international law firm that advises regional, national and global clients on a wide range of legal matters.

Stephen Forte, the firm’s Managing Partner, said: “The addition of Roy Kozupsky and his practice group will make SGR stronger in its continued efforts to make its trusts and estates practice, preeminent among its peers in the fields of servicing the firm’s clients in their wealth transfer planning. For over twenty years, Mr. Kozupsky has carefully built an architecture of client services that have deep value to the generations of families for whom he is an advisor. His practice areas include estate and gift tax planning, philanthropic planning for private foundations, complex estate and trust litigation and decedent administration of estates. He will be a tremendous asset for our clients and our growing New York office.”

Mr. Kozupsky, who has joined SGR as a partner and is based in the firm’s New York office, was previously founder and Managing Partner with Roy P. Kozupsky & Associate, LLP. He has been joined by associates Paul J. Sowell and Michael C. Levy, both of whom were associates at the former Kozupsky firm, and three other staff members including a fiduciary accountant who advises in the group’s fiduciary tax practice.

The SGR Trusts and Estates Group will also focus on tax planning, trusts and estates litigation, probate and administration and providing a range of services for institutional trustees.

“Smith, Gambrell & Russell provides an outstanding platform for our group,” said Mr. Kozupsky. “The firm has two qualities that are critical to its goal of building a preeminent national trusts & estates practice group, i.e. a firm wide “DNA” that highly values this area of legal services for its existing clients and where there is an already existing deep pool of talented attorneys. We want to spend our time providing outstanding, valuable service to our clients over many generations, which is an approach central to SGR’s culture.”

Mr. Kozupsky earned his B.A. degree from University of Colorado, and his J.D. degree from the Antioch School of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of New York, and a Member of the Trusts and Estates Section.
