SGR’s sustainability efforts recognized

ATLANTA (Nov. 26, 2008) — Law firms generate a lot of paper.

That’s why Smith, Gambrell & Russell is among a growing number of firms nationwide that are taking up the challenge to reduce office paper waste. SGR was recognized by the American Bar Association this month as a Partner in the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge.

The program was designed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the ABA Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. Best practices for office paper management include: buying paper with 30% recycled content; recycling all waste paper; and double-sided copying and printing.

“SGR is looking to the future and realizes that simple, meaningful steps are necessary to save our environment,” said attorney Stephen E. O’Day, chair of the firm’s Sustainability Practice Group. “We are thinking green throughout the workplace. We encourage alternative transportation and are making efforts to reduce our energy usage.”

The Climate Challenge is an effort by the legal industry to set an example of workplace sustainability. For more information about the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge, visit: www.epa.gov/greenpower/abaepa-law-office-climate-challenge.
