EPA Streamlines Review of New Chemicals for EV Vehicle Batteries

The EPA has announced that it will streamline review of new chemical substances that are used in the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries, and that can be used in other, vital emerging markets. The Toxic Substances Control Act (“TSCA”) requires that new compounds which have not been made in or imported to the United States before must be reviewed and approved by the agency before production or importation. In order to make the needed safety review of such new chemicals simpler, the agency will offer a streamlined process similar to the one it launched earlier in 2022 for biofuels.
