ATLANTA (August 3, 2022) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Partner David J. Burge has been accepted as a Fellow in the American College of Mortgage Attorneys (ACMA), a professional group comprised of 500 experienced real estate finance attorneys across North America.

A lawyer considered qualified for election as an ACMA Fellow may be nominated by another Fellow and confirmed after a formal consideration process. Lawyers who are accepted have distinguished themselves as practitioners in the field of real estate mortgage law through their skills and practice experience, bar association activities, lecturing, authoring articles and program materials, participation in the legislative process, and writing briefs and/or arguing cases that are significant to mortgage transactions.

David Burge is a partner in SGR’s Atlanta Real Estate Practice. He has substantial experience in commercial real estate lending transactions, corporate real estate transactions, capital markets real estate transactions, and general real estate sale, purchase, and leasing transactions. He represents several national and regional financial institutions in their real estate finance transactions in Georgia and throughout the Southeast.

Outside his legal practice, Mr. Burge is involved in the Georgia and Atlanta real estate and legal communities. He served on the Georgia Real Estate Commission (2008-2019), the Board of the Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority (2007-2012), and the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections (2013-2019). Mr. Burge also served as Chairman of the Real Estate Section of the Atlanta Bar Association (1999-2000) and the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia (2006-2007). He is a graduate of the Midtown Alliance Leadership Program, the Coverdell Leadership Institute, and Leadership Atlanta. Additionally, Mr. Burge is active with the Boy Scouts of America, the Urban Land Institute, and NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. He is a board member of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Emory University Board of Visitors (2018-2021). Recently, Mr. Burge was appointed to the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission by Governor Brian Kemp, and in 2020 Governor Kemp appointed him to the Board of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
