ATLANTA (May 29, 2018) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce firm Partner Matthew Warenzak as a graduate of Leadership Buckhead Class of 2018. The Leadership Buckhead Program year commenced in October 2017 and concluded May 2018.
Founded in 1990, the Leadership Buckhead Program focuses on helping high-potential members of the Atlanta community become stronger, more authentic leaders. Members of the class are selected for existing contributions to their communities, as well as professional distinction and potential for continued service. The class includes technology consultants, brokers, public servants, directors, and members of the Non-Profit, Legal, Medical, and Marketing communities, among others.
A Partner in the Intellectual Property Practice, Matt Warenzak specializes in patent litigation, patent prosecution, and trademarks. He also is an experienced general IP counsel, handling and litigating issues from all forms of intellectual property matters, including copyright, trademark, and licensing. Mr. Warenzak has successfully represented and assisted clients of various sizes, from start-ups to Fortune 100, with patent matters across a wide range of fields, including telecommunications, finance, banking, internet applications, medical devices, lighting, textiles, merchandising displays, and watercraft.
Mr. Warenzak is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, and its Intellectual Property section, and the Atlanta IP Inn of Courts. In addition to his full-time legal practice, Mr. Warenzak is an Adjunct Professor of patent law at the University of Georgia School of Law. He is also the former President of the Board of Directors for Out-of-Hand Theater, an Atlanta-based international theater company, and a supporter of the local arts.
Mr. Warenzak received his B.S. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, with highest honors, from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2002. While at Georgia Tech, he was a Presidential Scholar and a Georgia Tech Ambassador. Mr. Warenzak received his J.D. from the University of Georgia’s School of Law in 2006, where he was the Managing Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law. Prior to enrolling at the University of Georgia, he worked for Caterpillar.

The Leadership Buckhead Program, founded in 1990, focuses on helping high-potential members of the Atlanta community become stronger, more authentic leaders. Leadership Buckhead is a principle-based leadership program, focused on helping growth-oriented members of the Atlanta community become stronger, more authentic leaders. The program consists of nine monthly sessions, including two, two-day retreats and seven full or half-day classes, and spans from October through June. Each session fits within a framework structured around the concept of the natural ability and distinctive spirit that makes each leader unique. The program has been affiliated with the Buckhead Business Association (BBA) since its inception and was historically named the BBA Leadership Development Program.
