ATLANTA (March 10, 2022) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that attorney Dr. Judy Jarecki-Black has been chosen the winner of the 2022 A Feather in Her Cap Award. The award was created to recognize women who have made a major contribution to the animal health industry to both reward excellence and inspire young women in the industry, and was announced during a virtual ceremony on February 28, 2022.
Dr. Jarecki-Black is Senior Counsel in the Intellectual Property Practice in Atlanta where she leads SGR’s growing biotech/chemistry patent team. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Jarecki-Black is a seasoned and accomplished patent and IP attorney, including in both private and corporate practice. During her 18-year tenure with Merial (now Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health), Dr. Jarecki-Black was responsible for developing and implementing a global patent strategy, and she supervised a patent group that conducted worldwide patent procurement and led patent litigation activities. Among her most notable accomplishments were the successful patent portfolio development and patent litigation efforts related to Merial’s FRONTLINE Plus and NexGard products, including highly successful global patent enforcement campaigns. Dr. Jarecki-Black was also honored for her work involving pro bono representation of women and children, many of whom were in abusive situations, and her non-profit rescue farm which provides a safe environment to live out their lives for more than 100 abandoned and injured dogs, cats, and horses.
