Wheaton’s practice focuses on solving difficult litigation challenges for his clients in construction and commercial disputes in federal courts and before arbitral tribunals. His practice covers multiple industries, including the construction, energy, manufacturing, life sciences, and insurance sectors. Wheaton relies on his experience as a federal court clerk to inform his strategic approach to each of his matters and he regularly obtains favorable results for clients on the strength of his written advocacy.
Wheaton also speaks and publishes content on arbitration-related topics. Most recently, he co-chaired, for the second year in a row, 13th Annual Atlanta International Arbitration Society Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia. His publications focus primarily on developments in U.S. courts that affect arbitration practice.
Wheaton earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was a member of the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Team and the Senior Notes Editor for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law. Additionally, Wheaton developed his appellate advocacy skills representing indigent defendants in federal appeals through the Appellate Litigation Clinic. He holds a B.A. in Government with a minor in finance from the College of William and Mary.
Prior to joining SGR, Wheaton was an Associate at a national law firm focusing on federal court litigation and international disputes. He also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Tilman E. Self, III of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia in Macon, Georgia.

Representative Experience
- Represented a multinational construction contractor in an international arbitration pursuant to the ICC Rules of Arbitration.
- Obtained consolidation of multiple AAA arbitrations on behalf of an insurer in state court proceedings.
- Represented project owner in a dispute with general contractor related to the construction of a sports arena.
- Represented public utility in class action environmental litigation arising under the Clean Water Act.
- Obtained dismissal with prejudice on behalf of a pharmaceutical company of a class action complaint related to product labeling filed in federal court.
- Successfully appealed a federal agency’s adverse determination to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
- Represented a global pharmaceutical company in product liability matters arising out of recalled knee injections, including obtaining a favorable defense result on summary judgment.
