I help clients bring clarity, focus, and momentum to complex disputes.

About Ryan

Ryan J. Solfaro represents insurers, reinsurers, and businesses in reinsurance disputes, insurance coverage matters, and complex commercial litigation. He focuses on contract-driven disputes and is particularly well suited to matters that require close command of the facts, practical judgment, and strategic motion practice.

Ryan helps clients assess risk early, focus on the issues that matter most, and develop practical strategies for resolution. He is particularly effective in fact-intensive matters involving substantial discovery, dense records, and contested motion practice. Clients rely on him to bring structure to large matters, communicate clearly, and keep cases moving efficiently when the stakes and demands are high.

Before law school, Ryan worked as a paralegal on commercial contract, insurance, and reinsurance disputes, giving him practical exposure to all phases of a case. That background continues to shape how he approaches litigation: with attention to detail, strong command of the record, and a focus on practical outcomes. In addition to his insurance and reinsurance work, Ryan represents businesses in commercial disputes involving licensing agreements, founder and consulting agreements, scientific advisory board agreements, employment matters, business torts, and other contract-related issues. He is based in the Firm’s New York office. Outside the office, Ryan enjoys golf and going to the movies.

Representative Matters

  • Represented a liquidator in a reinsurance dispute and helped secure remand to state court after contested motion practice.
  • Represented a reinsurer in arbitration, obtaining an award rejecting the cedent’s “follow the fortunes” argument and granting complete relief based on no liability.
  • Represented a plaintiff in New York state trial court and the Appellate Division to enforce a contract evidenced only through email, securing a judgment exceeding $6 million and collecting it in full through post-judgment enforcement.
  • Led a successful motion to compel in a commercial contract dispute that materially narrowed the opposing party’s case and helped position the matter for resolution.
  • Won dismissal with prejudice for the client in an employment matter.
  • Secured additional attorneys’ fees through post-motion practice.
  • Helped defend against a third-party subpoena in New York state court and obtained fee shifting on behalf of the client.
