Vickie Chung Rusek is an Associate in the Environmental Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
Ms. Rusek represents clients in all aspects of environmental compliance, enforcement, permitting, and litigation, including Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act permitting and compliance, Toxic Substances Control Act compliance, and environmental tort litigation. She also advises clients on the acquisition and redevelopment of environmentally impacted properties, as well as renewable energy and sustainability initiatives including Georgia HB 57 and other solar energy incentives. In addition to her environmental practice, Ms. Rusek assists clients with OSHA compliance and appeals, and compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Act and California Prop 65. She also has experience with land use and zoning and contractor licensing.
Ms. Rusek earned her B.A. in International Affairs and Economics from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs and her J.D. from Emory University School of Law. While attending law school, she interned for the Office of the Attorney General of Georgia and Fulton County Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford, Jr. Ms. Rusek was also a member of the Emory Moot Court Society and participated in the national Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition and Cristol Kahn Paskay Cup in Miami, where she was awarded Best Oral Advocate.
Outside of the office, Ms. Rusek enjoys spending time with her husband Stas and their two dogs, traveling, and volunteering with community-based organizations. She serves on the board of the East Point Preservation Alliance, an organization that works to preserve the historic architecture of downtown East Point, Georgia. As a member of the Executive Committee, Ms. Rusek successfully nominated East Point’s Historic Civic Block to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2015 Places in Peril and National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2015 11 Most Endangered Historic Places lists. Ms. Rusek also serves on the board of the Grant Park Conservancy, an organization that works to ensure the restoration, beautification and maintenance of Grant Park. She volunteers with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, where she provides pro bono legal services to low-income clients.
