Michael A. Makuch is a Partner and a member of the Intellectual Property Practice of Smith Gambrell Russell LLP.
Mr. Makuch practices before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in connection with a broad range of electronic subject matters such as interactive control and controlled systems, artificial intelligence, video signal processing, image processing, and digital and analog integrated circuits, including integrated circuit fabrication technology. Mr. Makuch has particular specialty in counseling and prosecution in the optics and electro-optics arts, including optical neural networks, learning networks, interconnection systems, optical communications networks, semiconductor lasers, including quantum well lasers, photodetectors, and fiber optics. He has experience in the protection of software in fields such as virtual reality and improved computer functionality relating to business applications. He further has many years of mechanical and electrical practice expertise in the art of semiconductor device manufacturing from wafer processing to cutting. He has maintained an active trademark practice and is a member of the International Trademark Association.
Mr. Makuch is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, Ohio Bar, Bar Association of the District of Columbia, Optical Society of America, Japan-America Society, International Trademark Association (INTA), Yale Engineering Association and is an officer in the Brookdale Citizens Association. Mr. Makuch is a graduate of Yale University, where he received a B.S. degree with a concentration in electrical engineering in 1980. He earned his J.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1984.
