W. Collins Brown is a Partner in the Private Wealth Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
Mr. Brown works primarily with business owners, executives, and families to help them accomplish their goals and objectives with respect to their most important assets. His experience includes the design and implementation of sophisticated wealth transfer tax and estate plans as well as drafting complex wills, trust agreements, buy-sell agreements, and operating agreements. Mr. Brown also advises clients with respect to income tax issues, business succession planning, and asset protection planning.
In connection with his tax and trusts and estates practice, Mr. Brown regularly works alongside closely held businesses and business owners on corporate and transactional matters. He has significant experience advising clients with respect to tax, legal, and planning strategies involving mergers and acquisitions and other significant liquidity events.
Prior to joining Smith, Gambrell & Russell, Mr. Brown was a partner in the Tax & Wealth Planning Group at a full-service law firm in Atlanta.
Mr. Brown received his B.A. from Furman University in 2007. He earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2011, where he received the Arthur B. Custy Tax Award as the top tax student in his graduating class. In 2012, Mr. Brown also earned his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida Levin School of Law. Mr. Brown is a member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council and the Fiduciary Law Section of the Georgia Bar Association.
