ATLANTA (November 5, 2018) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce the firm served as legal counsel to Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) related to its $52 million mixed-use development project located on the corner of Lee Street and Westview Drive in Atlanta’s Historic West End. Scheduled for completion in time for the 2020 school year, the new 7.2-acre development will support the institution’s strategic growth, specifically the demand for nearby quality apartments.
MSM’s new mixed-use development will include its first-ever graduate student housing, comprised of 187 apartment units. It will also include a 25,000-square-foot ambulatory health facility, a 9,000-square-foot fitness/wellness center, 2,500 square feet of retail space, and a four-level parking deck.
Under the leadership of Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, President and Dean, the MSM expansion development, a partnership with Carter and Oakwood Development, will be the new gateway to the Atlanta University Center (AUC). The AUC, the largest and oldest consortium of historically Black colleges and universities, which includes MSM, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University, promotes collaboration among the four campuses and leverages its resources and those of the community.
SGR Partner Aasia Mustakeem in the firm’s Atlanta Real Estate Group served as outside legal counsel to MSM.
