The Anatomy of a Groundwater Contamination Case

By in Environmental and Sustainability Law

SGR Partner Andy Thompson recently published an article entitled “The Anatomy of a Groundwater Contamination Case: 6 Years, 15 Lawsuits, and Enough Twists and Turns for a Law School Exam” in the Summer 2012 edition of the In-House Defense Quarterly magazine.  In-House Defense Quarterly is a publication of the Defense Research Institute and is distributed to in-house counsel and corporate legal executives representing over 250 companies from various industries.

Andy’s article was co-authored with Tony Auffant, general counsel of SGR’s client Metso Paper USA, Inc., and discusses the defense of Metso in a putative class action and mass tort actions involving groundwater contamination, negotiations with a state environmental agency regarding response to and investigation of the contamination, and the ultimately successful prosecution by SGR of Metso’s cost recovery action against the parties responsible for the contamination.  A copy of Andy’s article can be accessed here.
