W. Thomas King

Tom King is a partner in the Financial Institutions Section of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.

His experience is in bank and thrift regulatory matters, as well as in various types of related corporate and shareholder matters, including public and private offerings of securities, mergers and acquisitions, proxy contests and hostile acquisitions. Mr. King is active in the firm’s representation of financial institution clients, including banks and bank holding companies, thrifts and unitary thrift holding companies, and securities broker-dealers.

Mr. King previously served as Deputy General Counsel for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (for mergers and acquisitions) and, later, as Regional Counsel for the Southeast Region of the Office of Thrift Supervision. He has served, by administrative appointment, as a Special Assistant Attorney General, representing the State of Georgia in various banking matters. He also serves, from time to time, as an expert witness in matters related to banking law and regulations.

He received his B.A. degree in economics from the University of Georgia in 1968. He earned his J.D. degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 1974.

Prior to entering law school, Mr. King was employed by a large investment banking firm in New York City.

Mr. King is admitted to the bar in, both, New York and Georgia. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Corporation, Banking and Business Law Sections of the New York Bar Association.
