W. Thomas King

Tom King is a Partner in the Financial Institutions Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.

His experience is in bank and thrift regulatory matters, as well as in various types of related corporate and shareholder matters, including public and private offerings of securities, mergers and acquisitions and proxy contests. Mr. King is active in the Firm’s regulatory representation of financial institution clients, including banks, bank holding companies, thrifts, thrift holding companies, and, in regulatory matters, their officers and directors.

He has served, by administrative appointment, as a Special Assistant Attorney General, representing the State of Georgia in various banking matters. He also serves, from time to time, as an expert witness in matters related to banking law and regulations. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the New York State Bar Association.

Mr. King, during the banking crisis of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, served, first, as Deputy General Counsel for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and, thereafter, as the first Regional Counsel for the Southeast Region of the Office of Thrift Supervision. Prior to entering law school, Mr. King was employed by a large investment banking firm in New York City.

Mr. King received his B.A. degree in economics from the University of Georgia in 1968. He earned his J.D. degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 1974. Mr. King is admitted to the bar in, both, New York and Georgia.
