Stefan M. Tiessen
Stefan M. Tiessen is a Partner in the International Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
Mr. Tiessen is the resident partner of Smith, Gambrell & Russell’s European office in Frankfurt, Germany. His areas of expertise include all corporate and commercial legal concerns of U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies. Mr. Tiessen is general counsel for numerous foreign companies, particularly European, and their respective U.S. subsidiaries with particular expertise in German and European Economic Community law. He was recently selected as Legal Counsel of the Consulate General of Switzerland in Atlanta and the German Engineering Federation (VDMA).
Mr. Tiessen is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce, Southeast U.S.A. Chapter and an active member of the German-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern United States, the French-American Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany. Mr. Tiessen is an active member of the International Panel of the American Arbitration Association. He is a member of the International Bar Association, the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), the American and Atlanta Bar Associations and the German American Attorneys Association.
Mr. Tiessen has published extensively, both domestically and abroad, on international business transactions. He is the co-editor and author of a German language book entitled, Doing Business in the United States. He is also the editor and author of a book on U.S.-German Estate Law. Mr. Tiessen is a frequent speaker, both domestically and abroad, on legal aspects of conducting business in the United States. He is a lecturer at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management and the Management Center Innsbruck, Austria.
A native of Germany, Mr. Tiessen received his European legal education from the University of Würzburg, Germany, Lausanne, Switzerland and Freiburg, Germany (German Bar Admission in 1980) and his American J.D. degree from the University of Illinois College of Law Urbana-Champaign in 1985. Mr. Tiessen is admitted to the Bars of the States of Georgia and New York and the Bar of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Mr. Tiessen is fluent in German, English and French.
