Heidi J. Sorvino
Heidi J. Sorvino is a partner and head of the Firm’s New York Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Practice.
Ms. Sorvino regularly represents debtors and secured creditors, including banks, financial institutions, hedge funds, distressed debt investors and indenture trustees in restructurings, workouts and bankruptcies. In addition, she has extensive experience in the acquisition, financing and disposition of real estate in bankruptcy and restructuring matters. Ms. Sorvino has also served as counsel to creditors committees and has handled various bankruptcy situations including cash collateral orders, debtor-in-possession financing, automatic stay relief, plan negotiations, sales of assets, preference and fraudulent conveyance actions and trading in claims.
Ms. Sorvino also assists various news media understand and explain bankruptcy issues to their audiences. She recently appeared as a guest on Reuters Television discussing the prospects of a bankruptcy filing by General Motors, Bloomberg TV, Fox Business News discussing the Chrysler bankruptcy and another time discussing General Motors and Lehman bankruptcy and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Crain’s, and Dow Jones Newswire.
Ms. Sorvino is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Turnaround Management Association. She is also Co-Chair of the New York Chapter of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation and Executive Women’s Golf Association. Ms. Sorvino was previously a member of the board of directors of the Ameritrans Capital Corporation, a public company traded on the NASDAQ Stock Market.
Ms. Sorvino earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College in 1983 and her Master of Social Work in 1985 from New York University. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University in 1989. Ms. Sorvino is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York and before the U.S. Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit; U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey; U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York; and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York.
