Robert G. Weilacher
Robert G. Weilacher is Of Counsel in the Intellectual Property Section of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
He has more than 40 years experience in the intellectual property law field. As a former U.S. Patent Office examiner, he handled cases, including interferences, dealing with high polymer technology. In his legal career, Mr. Weilacher has dealt with all aspects of practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office involving organic and inorganic chemistry, ceramics, polymers, metallurgy including alloys, steel compositions and treatment of metals, pharmaceuticals, immunology, recombinant DNA technology, textile and rubber chemistry and computer related inventions, as well as trademark oppositions and cancellations. In addition he has been involved with patent infringement and trade secret litigation in the courts and proceedings at the International Trade Commission, as well as in an arbitration for the American Arbitration Association. He has also completed courses at George Washington University in the biological sciences, including genetics.
Mr. Weilacher received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University in New York City and he is also a graduate of George Washington University Law School.
Mr. Weilacher is a past Chairman of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law Section of The Bar Association of the District of Columbia and was Treasurer of the National Council of Intellectual Property Law Associations, as well as the representative to that Association on behalf of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. He is a member of The American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, The Virginia State Bar, The District of Columbia Bar, the Georgia State Bar, the German American Attorneys Association and The Japan America Society. Recently, he was chair of the ABA Committee on Chemical Practice. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.
