John J. Lee
John J. Lee is a Partner in the Litigation Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
Mr. Lee’s legal career has focused on litigating a wide variety of complex commercial disputes in state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as before arbitration and administrative tribunals. In addition to his home jurisdiction of New York, Mr. Lee has handled disputes pending in other jurisdictions, including California, Michigan, Tennessee and Utah. Mr. Lee has extensive experience in representing domestic and foreign clients in a variety of substantive areas, including antitrust, aviation, business torts, contracts, construction, intellectual property, and products liability.
Representative Matters:
- Represented a manufacturer of consumer adhesives in a trademark counterfeiting action.
- Represented a life sciences company in various patent infringement actions concerning demineralized bone technology.
- Defended a distributor of medical devices in various products liability actions.
- Advise and represent video game developer and publisher in connection with disputes arising from various agreements for the development, manufacture, and purchase of video games.
- Defended a Korean manufacturer of consumer appliances and electronics in various arbitrations arising from disputes over reseller agreements.
- Represented aircraft leasing companies in various disputes arising from lease agreements with aircraft operators, including the exercise of repossession and export rights, and under aircraft purchase agreements.
- Advised finance parties in connection with guarantee obligations relating to aircraft assets.
Mr. Lee is a member of the bar of the State of New York. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Western District of Michigan; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Sixth, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuits; and the U.S. Court of International Trade.
He received his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1993, where he was a member of and served as Articles Editor for the Iowa Law Review. Mr. Lee received his B.A. in Economics from the University of British Columbia in 1989.
