His practice focuses on labor and employment law and non-compete law. Mr. Costyn represents both local and national clients in state and federal courts, and counsels clients in connection with federal and state law compliance, best practices, contracts, policies and employee issues.
He has successfully represented clients through class and collective action litigation in multiple states, shareholder disputes, restrictive covenant litigation, confidentiality and trade secret cases, discrimination and retaliation claims under Title VII, the ADA, the FMLA state civil rights laws and administrative actions across the nation. Prior to joining Smith, Gambrell, & Russell, Mr. Costyn worked as a Senior Associate for the law firm of Ford & Harrison, LLP, also headquartered in Atlanta.
Mr. Costyn received his B.S. degree in Government and International Relations from Berry College in 2003, and earned his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Georgia. While in law school, he was selected as the teaching assistant for torts and served as a research assistant in the field of international relations. Also while in law school, Mr. Costyn clerked with Atlanta-based litigation firms Ford & Harrison, LLP and Griffin, Cochran & Marshall, P.C. (now part of Sutherland, Asbill, & Brennan, LLP), where he assisted with both employment and construction litigation cases.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Georgia Bar, and is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Georgia and the eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Costyn is a committee member for the Atlanta District Office of the Boy Scouts of America, a supervisor for Habitat for Humanity and plays for the Atlanta Kookaburras Australian Rules Football Club.
