Ms. Avant is engaged in a general corporate law practice in which she represents and advises a wide variety of clients on matters relating to their businesses. She is often consulted in connection with the organization and formation of business entities and the negotiation and preparation of agreements relating to those businesses, including supply and distribution agreements, employment and restrictive covenant agreements, shareholder agreements, and license agreements. Ms. Avant also advises clients with regard to international trade and export control compliance, including matters relating to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), U.S. economic and trade sanctions, and foreign acquisition and investment laws and regulations. In addition, Ms. Avant has an active practice in business acquisition and divestiture transactions.
Ms. Avant is the author of Foreign Acquisitions and U.S. National Security: When is CFIUS Notification Appropriate?, an article which discusses notification laws relating to certain acquisitions of U.S. businesses by foreign persons. She is also the co-author of Pandora’s Box: Inadvertent Export of Arms Technology During Ordinary Business Activities, an article which provides an overview of corporate compliance obligations in connection with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
Ms. Avant is originally from Albany, Georgia. She graduated, cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 2001. She studied at Oxford University in 2000. She received her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 2005.
Ms. Avant is a member of the Georgia Bar.
