Davené D. Walker

Davené Walker is an Associate in the Zoning, Planning and Land Use Practice Group of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.

Ms. Walker represents clients in all stages of applications for rezoning, use permits and variances. She also has experience in commercial litigation, products liability litigation and land use litigation. Ms. Walker is a member of the Firm’s banking litigation team and has handled litigation involving multi-million dollar promissory notes and commercial guarantees.

Prior to joining Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP, Ms. Walker temporarily served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Clarence Cooper of the United States District Court in the Northern District of Georgia. Ms. Walker is a member of the Real Estate Section of the Georgia State Bar, the Georgia Association of Black Woman Attorneys’ Executive Board (2007- Present) and the Advisory Committee of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society. She also served as the 2010 Scholarship Committee Co-Chair for the Just the Beginning Foundation. In addition, Ms. Walker volunteers as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate for the Georgia State Defense Force.

Ms. Walker received her Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, in Communication Studies and Afro-American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia, where she served on the Editorial Board of the Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law and was a member of the Moot Court. Ms. Walker is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and is admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Ms. Walker has extensive experience providing simple wills pro bono for public safety officers through the Wills for Heroes program and for low-income senior citizens through Georgia Legal Services Program.

Additionally, Ms. Walker co-authored articles concerning recent developments in zoning and land use law, which were published in the Mercer Law Review in Fall 2008 and 2009.
