Douglass E. Myers, III
Doug Myers is an associate in the Jacksonville office of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
He is a member of the Real Estate Section.
Mr. Myers attended the University of Florida where he received a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, in 1997 and a joint Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration degree, with a Certificate in Environmental and Land Use Law, in 2001. During his tenure, Mr. Myers was tapped as a member of Florida Blue Key, served as chairman of Homecoming 1998, and volunteered as Chief Defense Counsel and Chancellor of the Student Honor Court. Mr. Myers also served as a student clinician of the law school’s Conservation Clinic where he helped the City of Gainesville create a comprehensive green building program. By utilizing existing standards from the Florida Green Building Coalition for residential construction and the United States Green Building Council for commercial construction, the program Mr. Myers developed is frequently referenced by other municipalities in Florida and was recently used by the Florida Building Commission’s Florida Green Building Workgroup in its efforts to draft a model green building ordinance for all Florida municipalities.
Mr. Myers began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida and later became a construction litigation associate for a local area firm. In 2005, Mr. Myers served on the steering committee of the Jacksonville Electric Authority’s Green Home & Yard Coalition. In October of that year, Mr. Myers joined Smith, Gambrell & Russell as a transactional associate. Since then, Mr. Myers has participated in notable transactions involving bankruptcy auctions, multi-state closings, complex lease terminations, conveyances to special purpose entities, boundary dispute settlements, and property disputes for foreign clients. He has also spoken at the 7th Annual Richard E. Nelson Symposium at the University of Florida on “Green Building: Prospects and Pitfalls for Local Governments.” His segment, titled “The Genesis of a Local Green Building Ordinance,” concerned his involvement in the development of Gainesville, Florida’s local green building program.
Mr. Myers is an active member of the Jacksonville Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Group and the Co-Chairman of ULI Jacksonville’s Young Leaders Group.
