Dennis O. Doherty

Dennis O. Doherty is a partner in the Corporate Section of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.

He has extensive experience in commercial, corporate and venture capital finance, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, securities and general corporate matters. Mr. Doherty represents major lenders and financial institutions in commercial asset-based lending transactions, including syndicated lending transactions and closely-held publicly-traded companies, Internet service providers and franchisees and franchisors in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and corporate and venture capital finance.

Mr. Doherty received his B.S. in Accounting, cum laude, from the State University of New York, Albany, his M.B.A. in financial and international business from New York University and his J.D. from Catholic University where he served as an editor on the Catholic University Law Review.

After obtaining his B.S. in Accounting, Mr. Doherty became the Controller of a school in upstate New York. From 1980 to 1985, he worked in the Audit department of Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in New York City, specializing in utilities and brokerage. Mr. Doherty obtained his C.P.A. license in the State of New York in 1981. He was selected by Coopers & Lybrand to work in its London office where he spent a year auditing British companies. He left Coopers & Lybrand as a Supervisor to become an Assistant Vice President with Citibank N.A. in New York City, where he worked in the international area of the Institutional Finance department. During law school, Mr. Doherty interned in the Office of Financial Enforcement at the Department of Treasury and served as an editor on the Catholic University Law Review. Prior to becoming associated with Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP in 1994, Mr. Doherty was associated with the New York law firms of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.

Mr. Doherty is a member of the State Bars of Georgia, New York, New Jersey and Florida and a member of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association.
