P. Andrew Patterson

P. Andrew Patterson is a partner in the Corporate Section of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.

Mr. Patterson began his career as a partner in the law firm of Jackson, Patterson & Parks founded by Maynard Jackson, former Mayor of the City of Atlanta. Mr. Patterson specializes in real estate and municipal bond finance law. He has served as lead bond counsel in connection with the issuance of bonds by the state of Georgia. He also has represented several governmental authorities and entities, particularly in matters relating to housing and redevelopment.

Mr. Patterson has served as President of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, President of the Gate City Bar Association, Chairman of the Judicial Commission of the City of Atlanta, member of the Committee on Specialization and Recertification and the Formal Advisory Opinion Board, State Bar of Georgia, member of the Board of Examiners of the State of Georgia where he served as Chairman in 2002. He is also a member of the National Conference of Bar Examiners where he serves on several committees.

Mr. Patterson is a vice chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee. He has served as President of the Board of Directors of the Sadie G. Mays Nursing Home, President of the Intergenerational Resource Center, President of the Douglass High School Parents and Teachers Association, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, Penn Cultural Center, Frogmore, SC, Leadership Atlanta, Chairperson of the Church Council of Cascade United Methodist Church, and the board of directors of The Heritage Fund of the Atlanta Medical Association, Inc. Mr. Patterson has also served as the Chairman of the Legal Redress Committee of the Atlanta Branch of the NAACP and is a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He is a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, a member of the National Association of Guardsmen, and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Kappa Boulé.

Mr. Patterson is listed in editions of Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in America.

Mr. Patterson was graduated from Fisk University with honors in 1965 with a major in History. He matriculated at Harvard Law School in September 1965. He was one of the founders of the Harvard Black Law Students Association in 1967. Mr. Patterson graduated from Harvard Law School in 1968.

Mr. Patterson is married to Dr. Gloria P. Patterson, an administrator with the Atlanta Public School System. He is the father of Dr. Pickens A. Patterson, III, M.D., an anesthesiologist specializing in pain management and Staci P. Rucker, Esq., a 2001 graduate of Harvard Law School who is currently Director of Academic Support at the University of Dayton School of Law, Dayton, Ohio.

Mr. Patterson is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.
