Laura A. Laughlin
Laura A. Laughlin is an Associate in the Litigation Practice in the New York office of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
Prior to joining Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP, Ms. Laughlin was associated with two other large law firms, where she practiced commercial litigation, as well as white collar criminal defense and employment litigation, before both federal and state courts. She has experience representing corporate executives and corporations in government investigations, as well as a wide range of experience representing clients in a variety of corporate litigation matters, including contract disputes, business torts, intellectual property, real estate, and false advertising.
Representative Matters:
- Advised and prepared high-ranking corporate executive in an extensive SEC and DOJ interview for accounting fraud.
- Represented CEO and his company in a DOJ investigation for political contributions fraud.
- Successfully represented a New Jersey redeveloper in a trespass/eviction action.
- Represented apartment management company in an insurance coverage dispute where insurance broker negligently provided late notice to insurance company and helped negotiate a high settlement for client.
- Defended jewelry company in false advertising dispute brought by competing jeweler and won dismissal of the lawsuit.
- Defended home healthcare company in hostile work environment and sexual harassment lawsuit and helped negotiate a favorable settlement.
Ms. Laughlin graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Economics. She earned her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. While in law school, Ms. Laughlin was a member of the Dean’s List and served as a staff member for the Fordham Urban Law Journal. She was awarded the Archibald R. Murray Award for her outstanding work in Fordham’s Federal Litigation Clinic, and also worked as a judicial extern for the Honorable Kevin Thomas Duffy in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Ms. Laughlin is a member of the New York, New Jersey, and California State Bars. She is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the District of New Jersey.
