Summary Judgment for Ogeechee-Canoochee Riverkeeper (OCRK)
Smith, Gambrell & Russell is Senior Litigation Counsel for the Southern Environmental Law Center and represented the Ogeechee-Canoochee Riverkeeper (OCRK) in a challenge to a proposal to log old growth cypress trees from Cypress Lake in Bulloch County, Georgia. On behalf of OCRK, SGR challenged the U.S. the permitter’s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, determination that the logging of Cypress Lake was exempt from permitting as an ongoing silvicultural activity. A summary judgment was issued on May 27, 2008 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.
